Principal's Message

I, Dr. Javaid Iqbal Zargar, welcome you all to this Institution of higher learning and glorious future. I am grateful to Almighty for providing me an opportunity to be the head of this great seat of learning. This Institution has been shifted to state of Art building after 12 years and has started producing glaxy of alumni who are occupying pivotal positions in all walks of life. The College has started functioning from its newly constructed building with well equipped Classrooms, Smart Classrooms, Computer/Skill & Browsing Center along with well equipped Science Laboratories.

College Profile

Govt. Degree College, Kilhotran was established in 2008 under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan (PMRP) at Project cost of Rs. 1335.50 Lacs. The construction was started in 2015 and was almost completed in September 2022 by the JKPCC Ltd as executing agency. The picturesque location of College at the bank of Kalgoni River adds to the beauty of campus spread over 79 Kanals. GDC Kilhotran is a co-educational institute and serves the educational needs of Sub- Division Bhalessa (Gandoh), one of the remotest areas of Jammu and Kashmir. It is affiliated to University of Jammu and recognised by UGC under 2f & 12b of UGC Act-1956. The College was inaugurated by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, the then Chief Minister of J&K in the make shift arrangement of Govt Hr. Sec School Kilhotran. In its first year the College enrolled 190 students in B.A Part 1st. Initially only four subjects were offered namely Gen. English, Political Science, History and Urdu but over the years more subjects namely Arabic, Sociology, Education, EVS, Economics, Persian, Hindi and Dogri were sanctioned for the college. It is pertinent to mention here that the college enrolment is increasing as year roll on. The College has a feeding area of 12 Higher Secondary School of the area. The college has started the Science Stream under NEP 2020 from Session 2022 with intake capacity of 40 each in subjects namely Botany, Chemistry, Zoology and Computer Application. In the near future College is going to offer skill courses in IT/Computer Science/Electronics and Veterinary Technology besides the College will also offer a new subjects like Physics, Mathematics, Geography, Public Administration, Kashmiri and stream of BCA for which sanction has been received from the Higher Education Department and affiliation with University of Jammu is under process. The College has thus seen a remarkable growth over the years. A team of dedicated Permanent faculty members consisting of 12 Teaching Faculty Members, 01 PTI and 03 Lecturers on Academic arrangement well supported by Non-Teaching Staff Members that include 8 Permanent Employee and 5 Local Fund Employee. Faculty members are regularly deputed to attend refresher courses, orientation courses, seminars and workshops so that they can update their knowledge and also bring fresh ideas for the overall improvement of the institution. The College is also proud of its efficient and very supportive administrative/non-teaching staff. The College has a rich collection of books in its library. It also has well Equipped Laboratories, Internet Browsing centre, First Aid Centre, Computer Skill Centre, Six Smart Class Rooms and adequate provisions for sports and co-curricular activities.
