Govt Degree College, Kilhotran was established in 2008 under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan (PMRP). The picturesque location of College at the bank of Kalgoni river adds to the beauty of campus spread over 79.7 Kanals. GDC Kilhotran is a co-educational institute and serves the educational needs of Sub-Division Bhalessa (Gandoh), one of the remotest areas of Jammu and Kashmir. It is affiliated to University of Jammu and recognised by UGC under 2f & 12b of UGC Act-1956. The College was inaugurated by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, the then Chief Minister of J&K in the make shift arrangement of Govt Hr Sec School Kilhotran. Dr Koushal Samotra was the first to honour the chair of Principal. In its first year the College enrolled 190 students in BA Part 1st . Initially only four subjects were offered viz Gen. English, Political Science, History and Urdu but over the years 12 more subjects, Science Stream and BA Honours (History) were sanctioned for the college. In the near future College is going to offer skill courses in IT/Computer Science/Electronics and Veterinary Technology besides the College will also offer a new stream of BCA and MCA for which sanction has been received from the Higher Education Department and affiliation is under process. The College has thus seen a remarkable growth over the years. A team of 16 dedicated faculty members facilitate teaching and contribute in shaping the life of students. The College has 10 Assistant Professors 05 Lecturers and 01 Physical Teaching Instructor (PTI).Faculty members are regularly deputed to attend refresher courses, orientation courses, seminars, workshops etc so that they can update their knowledge and also bring fresh ideas for the overall improvement of the institution. The College is also proud of its efficient and very supportive administrative/non-teaching staff. A team of 07 dedicated officials look after the administrative work of College. Besides the College also has 05 Local Fund employees. The College has a rich collection of books in its library. It also has well equipped laboratories and adequate provisions for sports and co-curricular activities.
